Thursday, May 24 -

Objective: By the end of class, students will begin to develop a resume in order to prepare for job hunting and scholarship opportunities.

Get your chrome book and open up two tabs:

Direct Instruction

1. Open the SPEARMINT TEMPLATE.

2. Begin to enter your personal information up top in replacement for what is there.

3. Save this resume under your name and share with me immediately. 

4. Instead of SKILLS, replace with "OBJECTIVE."

5. Move "EDUCATION" to be underneath OBJECTIVE. As a high school student, always start with education first, before "EXPERIENCE."

6. Use the "ACTIVE VERB" handout to find appropriate words to begin your bullet points to describe your job experiences. Never use pronouns - every bullet starts with an active verb to describe something you have actually done / accomplished in the position.

7. You must be meticulous in writing your resume. NO TYPOS of any sort. A typo is the first and easiest reason for a potential employer to throw out your resume.

Thursday, May 10 - Keystone Terms Review

Objective: By the ned of class, students will review Keystone terms and vocabulary in order to prepare for the Keystone exam next week.

DO NOW

Quizlet matching terms for non-fiction

Direct Instruction / Guided

In teams : 
1. Write down answer to each question with marker on paper  provided. 
2. Each team will reveal each answer when time is called to earn points. 
3. Every team must provide an answer for every question.
4. Team with the most points at the end of the game earns 10 extra points on the 20 Keystone Questions test from last week.

Keep a note book or piece of paper in front of you as well to take any notes on terms you don't know. Everyone will receive participation points

Wednesday, MAy 9 - Miss Brill CRQ

Objective: By the end of class, students will analyze fiction in order to prepare for the Keystone exam.

DO NOW

Answers to yesterday's DO NOW:

SENSORY = having to do with the five senses (IMAGERY)
Sensory language is therefore figurative language or imagery

DICTION = Word choice - the style and tone of an author's writing is heavily influenced by diction, or the words he chooses to use to describe something or express a thought

A business letter would be written in FORMAL STYLE with a SERIOUS TONE.

Objective: By the end of class, students will review test taking strategies and vocabulary in order to prepare for the Keystone exam.

1. What is another word for "SENSORY LANGUAGE"?

2. What does "DICTION" mean?

3. What "style" of writing would you write a business letter? What would be the tone of this type of letter?

Direct Instruction

Yesterday, we reviewed all of the multiple choice questions for Miss Brill and on your own, you spent time "skimming and finding" quotes from the questions throughout the text. 
Let's look at what else we need to find when reading by looking at the questions briefly again.

Read Miss Brill together. Annotate.

Answer all of the multiple choice questions (5 points each) and prepare for the CRQ.
