Tuesday, May 30 - Cover Letters


Objective: By the end of class, students will write resume, email cover letters and apply for actual summer jobs in order to gain employment.

DO NOW

When your Resume is complete, save it, and save ANOTHER COPY as a PDF. Make sure you do not save your only copy as a PDF because in the future you will need to make changes. However, for today, when you send your resume out, you want to send it a a PDF so no one can make any changes to it.

GOOGLE SEARCH - "SUMMER JOBS FOR TEENS IN PHILADELPHIA"

Use directions from the "email cover letter" site to write a cover letter for a job. Be sure to highlight your strengths and focus more on how you can help them, rather than how they can help you. Do not send anything until I proof read it.

As a High School Student, put education first before experience. Be sure to highlight your shop area under education. 

Experience can include volunteer positions, special projects and of course, any employment.

When describing experience, bullet point responsibilities and skills that you have to perform that responsibility. Use resume ACTION verbs.

Try not to be too "wordy";  be short and concise and be very careful with spelling and grammar.

In order to complete the CRQ - examine the character traits that we determined for Powell in the italicized portion at the beginning of the journal. then scan the journal entries to determine how his character is suitable for the setting that he is exploring. Be sure to find an appropriate quote that shows the relatonship between the settingand Powell's character.
