Tuesday, October 6 - Everyday Use Assessment

Objective: By the end of class, students will be assessed on their knowledge of Everyday Use by Alice Walker, practice constructed responses and evaluate character traits in order to improve reading comprehensive skills.

DO NOW

Take out your questions and answers from yesterday's classwork to discuss prior to assessment and for classwork credit.

Direct / Guided Instruction

Address any questions regarding character, POV and/or the plot of Everyday Use.

Independent

Multiple Choice - 15 questions - 5 points each (4 for correct answer and 1 for page number)

Pick two of the three Constructed Responses

1. Analyze how Mama's character from the beginning of the story to the end changes. (Be sure to provide character traits and examples of things she does and/or says to prove that she has changed.)

2. Analyze the different ways that each Maggie and Dee want to preserve the quilts. Why is Dee more fearful of using them for "everyday use?" Why is Maggie OK with using them?

3. Analyze the extreme differences in character and personality between Maggie and Dee and in your conclusion, explain what each of them might represent (consider what heritage means to each of them).

When Done with test

Come up and get a chrome book. You will be assigned a number - this will be your chrome book for the whole semester when we use them. You are responsible for getting and returning your chrome book at the beginning and end of classes in which we use them . Do not ask another student to get or return your chrome book for you.

Today, sign on and if you do not have a gmail account, create one. You may also sign on using your student ID and password.
