Objective: By the end of class, students will analyze character and motives in order to improve reading comprehensive skills.

DO NOW

Explain how Dee's rejection of her own name directly represents rejecting her immediate family and family heritage.

Direct Instruction

Read pages 62-64 - add character traits and /or find evidence that supports traits already established for Dee and Mama.

Guided / Independent

Complete all sidebars through page 64. 

Begin character trait analysis for Maggie. Remember you find out about a character not just by what they say or do, but by how others treat them or what others say about them as well.

Review story to date.
