Wednesday, September 30 - Lamb to the Slaughter

Objective: By the end of class, students will identify irony in short fiction and create plot structure in order to improve reading comprehension.

DO NOW - Identify which kid of irony applies to each of the below scenerios:
1. You are failing and I tell you "GOOD JOB!" - this is an example of  what kind of irony?
2. If you have been getting A's all semester and then you fail a test, that is what kind of irony?
3. You are watching a movie and a murderer is in the attic when the family gets home from dinner on a Saturday night.

Direct Instruction

Read pages 319 and 320 together. Make predictions.

Guided

Identify one instance of dramatic irony and one instance of situational so far.

Discuss the plot structure graphic organizer - Definitions of each part are on the back of the diagram if you have forgotten. Why should we consider Mary as the PROTAGONIST and Patrick as the ANTAGONIST.

Independent

Complete questions on handout from yesterday.

Complete plot structure through the climax.

Review answers together.
