Objective: By the end of class, students will determine character traits by analyzing direct and indirect characterization in order to improve reading comprehensive skills.

DO NOW

WRITE THE DEFINITION in your Notebooks:

To  EVALUATE = to form an idea about something by analyzing information. When evaluating, you do the same thing as analyzing, except at the end, add your OPINION.

video

Guided

Read STEAL handout. Complete opposite side determining a character trait of  character in each paragraph and explaining how you know in the box provided.

Independent

What is your character? Use a NEO if you'd like to answer the following in at 2-3 well- written paragraphs:

Evaluate the tragic situation of September 11, 2001. What might you have done if you were left there on your own?

THEN:

EVALUATE yourself / your character. List 5 character traits that you think you possess. Consider what you say, think, do and look. What have you done or said in your life so far to confirm these character traits about yourself? Do you think most people would agree (how do they describe you)?

Check for Understanding

Check handout during independent work and return prior to the end of class.
