Tuesday, September 29 - Analyze /Evaluate 102 minutes

Objective: By the end of class, students will practice analyzing and evaluating in order to improve reading comprehensive skills.


DO NOW

Explain the differences between dramatic, situational and verbal ironies. What must happen in order to have verbal irony? 

Direct Instruction

Collect HW - tear HW out from soft holt reader, be sure to put your name on it and staple. I will collect after class.

Review LTTS multiple choice test and constructed responses. FORMAT: Restate, explain/ discuss, quote conclude. If you did not write the whole prompt down, then restating and answering all parts of the question obviously was impossible.

Guided  / Independent

Left on Your Own is the main idea of the HW passage, From 102 Minutes." Answer the following in constructed response format.

1. After reading "From 102 Minutes:," analyze how the importance of human life brought together three very different individuals -  marine, a recovering addict and an accountant  - who worked together to save lives in a tragic situation.

a. Restate
b. Explain (discuss their different backgrounds / possibly how they would never meet if not faced with tragedy)
c. Quote (one or two from that support how they worked together without question).
d. Conclude - go back to the prompt and make sure all parts of questions answered.

2. Evaluate (provide your opinion) the tragic situation; what might you have done if you were there, left on your own.
