Tuesday, September 29 - Introduction to LTTS

Objective: By the end of class, students will make predictions, INFER and identify irony in short fiction in order to improve reading comprehension.

DO NOW

In 2-4 sentences, make a prediction or an inference about what this story is going to be about based on the title and the picture. An inference is an educated guess based on facts or information - not a random guess:

Direct Instruction

Discuss Predictions. Review the three types of irony that will be found in this short fictional story.

GuidedRead introduction together - page 316.

Read 317-318 together. 

Independent


Identify three specific things from the text that Mary does to suggest that she loves her husband (page 318).

Identify three things that suggest something is wrong by patricks behavior.


Begin the plot structure graphic organizer - keep it or put it in your folder to continue tomorow.Definitions of each part are on the back of the diagram if you have forgotten.

Exit Pass - Identify which kid of irony applies to each of the below scenerios:

1. You are failing and I tell you "GOOD JOB!" - this is an example of  what kind of irony?

2. If you have been getting A's all semester and then you fail a test, that is what kind of irony?

3. You are watching a movie and a murderer is in the attic when the family gets home from dinner on a Saturday night.
