Monday, Period 6 - Irony

Objective: By the end of class, students will identify different types of irony in order to recognize in literature and improve reading comprehensive skills.

DO NOW

Write Down definitions in your notebooks. You can find definitions (just the first sentence is sufficient) on page 984 in the hard covered holt reader textbook:
Three types of irony:

1. Dramatic Irony 
2. Situational Irony
3. Verbal Irony

Irony worksheet - identify and explain why each is irony and why it is verbal, situational or dramatic. Underline or highlight the words in the passage that suggest irony.

Exit Pass - Identify which kid of irony applies to each of the below scenerios:

1. You are failing and I tell you "GOOD JOB!" - this is an example of  what kind of irony?

2. If you have been getting A's all semester and then you fail a test, that is what kind of irony?

3. You are watching a movie and a murderer is in the attic when the family gets home from dinner on a Saturday night.
