Wednesday, December 12 - Vietnam War

Objective: By the end of class, students will practice grammar (homonyms) and learn history of the Vietnam war and answer comprehensive questions for short story.

From your notes yesterday from video, answer the following questions:
1. How many American soldiers were sent to fight in Vietnam?
2. What from what year to what year were we involved?
3. Why did USA support South Vietnam?
4. How many American soldiers died in Vietnam?
5. Who won the Vietnam war and what political party rules today?

Read Pages - 622-624 in Holt text - Whee have you Gone Charming Billy?

Answer the following CRQ's on NEOS.

1. Why did the soldiers move silently in single file at night in Vietnam? (page 622)
2. Why do you think the other soldier spoke so harshly to Berlin? (pge 622)
3. Provide examples of imagery used on page 623 that make the reader feel "as if he/she are there."
 4. What is the primary emotion of Berlin?
5. How does the tone of the story change when Berlin imagines how things will be when they reach the coast?
6. Look at the statistics on page 624. Why did the war become progressively less popular in the US?
7. How do we know, from the stats, that the Vietnam still plays an important role in the lives of Americans today?
