Tuesday, October 11 - Evaluate CRQ and Review of Keystone Terms / Examples

Objective: By the end of class, students will evaluate non-fiction in order to improve reading comprehensive skills

DO NOW

In your notebooks, write the definition of EVALUATE:

To form an IDEA of the amount, number, or value of; assess.
When you evaluate, you provide your opinion that is based on evidence.

Direct Instruction

Read together - Stoning To Death, a Tradition!

(After we read together, you will be asked to write a constructed response evaluating the events in the article).

Guided 

Review the prompt and hand out graphic organizers for constructed response.

PROMPT:
Evaluate the Gotmaar festival in India and provide your opinion on whether the festival should be allowed to continue or should be stopped by western "civilizations." Be sure to cite textual evidence, parts of our discussions and/or The Lottery to support your answer.

Independent

Complete CRQ on graphic organizer provided. When complete, give to me for editing. You will receive it back on Thursday for a final write on a NEO for a QUIZ grade.

When complete, answer the review questions on the handout provided. You should have most of the definitions and examples in your notebooks, but the definitions can also be found on the walls around the room.

Check for Understanding

Check graphic organizer prior to completing the CRQ. Individual student checks during independent work.

Closure

Review answers to review questions and discuss answers / opinions to the CRQ.
