Friday, April 25 TONE, MOOD AND STYlE

Objective: By the end of class, students will analyze tone mood and style in order to improve reading comprehension.

Style worksheet.

YOU MUST ANNOTATE EACH ARTICLE FOR:
1. Sentence structure - are the sentences long or short?
2. Vocabulary - difficult or simple? 
3. Formal or informal words - does the author use simple language and possibly slang or not?
4. Descriptive words - is their figurative language (similes or metaphors or hyperboles, etc)

Then answer the questions on the back. For # 3 , be sure that you completely analyze the style you prefer and explain why you prefer it.

On a separate piece of paper: What is the mood of the first passage (remember mood is based on feelings and senses)? What is its tone (the author's attitude about the subject) ?
What is the mood of the second passage? What is its tone?
