Objective: By the end of class, students will research self-generated questions from informational text in order to develop the skill of finding relevant and reliable information quickly and efficiently that will be beneficial in any career.

DO NOW

Get your soft HOLT reader and turn to page 321 to have access to your questions. 

Direct Instruction

Get a laptop and begin research to answer each question. Continue to change the words you enter in google until you find what you are looking for. For Example: If you enter, "What did Shackelton's men eat?" and you do not get what you are looking for, try different words such as "shackelton expedition diet" or "elephant island food sources," etc. 

Reminder: Wilkipedia is not a reputable source!!

1. Sentence structure - are the sentences long or short?
2. Vocabulary - difficult or simple? 
3. Formal or informal words - does the author use simple language and possibly slang or not?
4. Descriptive words - is their figurative language (similes or metaphors or hyperboles, etc)

Then answer the questions on the back. For # 3 , be sure that you completely analyze the style you prefer and explain why you prefer it.

Monday, April 21 - Poetry / Sonnet

Objective: By the end of class, students will review poetic devices and analyze Shakespearean sonnet in order to develop new vocabulary  and distinguish between different types of poems.

Review elements of different types of poems (Prose, figurative, imagery, sonnet, etc).  To remember what a couplet is, think of "couple" meaning "two." Two lines of poetry, 10 syllables each with END rhyme.
