Objective: By the end of class, students will analyze riot aftermath of MLK assassination and prepare to compare / contrast to others recently studied.

Read Jimmy Broslin's article re aftermath of MLK assassination.  Holt text  pages 874-876.

THEN:

1. Summarize the article.

  2. What is it about human nature that makes people rebel and riot? Examine several riots that we have studied - Kent State, after Juius Caesar's death, MLK, Rodney King....etc.  Did the riots evoke change in society? What was the purpose of the riot and were the people successful in achieving their goal? (was their purpose to bring awareness, change, to mourn, to rebel, was it racial or class driven/)
