Objective: By the end of class,students will choose a short story from the soft holt text and begin comprehensive project due Wednesday. Today, the minimum due is numbers 1-3 listed below.

Tumult is a noun meaning chaos . Tulmultuous is the adjective form of th word.  Write a sentence for each form of the word using proper context clues.

The city was in great tumult after the hurricane. (noun)
The tumultuous hurricane caused destruction everywhere. (adj)


Exhalation is a noun meaning a breath blown out. Exhale is the verb form of the word. Write a sentence for each form of the word using proper context clues.

When I heard the good news, I let out a big exhalation.(adj)
I finally was able to exhale fter I heard the good news. (verb)  







Direct Instruction

Look through the soft holt text and write down the story of your choice and get approved by me.

 For the story of your choice, you will complete the following tasks:

1.   Read introduction - what genre is this piece of literature (fiction, non-fiction, article, poetry, etc)? (10 points)
2. Choose three of the vocabulary words that are nouns. Create the adjective form of that word. Now write a sentence for each form of the word using context clues.  I will provide examples. (30 points)
3. Identify any literary devices used (foreshadowing, flashbacks, flash forwards, irony etc). (10 points)
4. Read the story and complete all side bars. (50 points)
5. Summerize the story in a 5-7 sentence paragraph. (50 points)
6. Did you enjoy this story - why or why not? (10 points)
7. Complete all questions at the end of the story. (40 points)

This assignment will be the final grade for this marking period. It is worth a total of 200 points.

Each student must submit his /her own work, however, you may consult with each other as you work.
