Wednesday & Thursday - Figurative Language

Objective: By the end of class students will review figurative language and vocabulary in order to prepare for the Keystone exam.

Direct Instruction

How does figurative language help to communicate an idea?

Figurative language helps to communicate an idea usually by creating an image or emphasizing a point.

Example: Her eyes were like diamonds.

What type of figurative language is being used?
How is it used to communicate what here eyes are like? (describe her eyes).



Guided

Watch the following movie clips. For each one, you will write down:
1. What type of figurative language is being used
2. What image does it create or what point does it emphasize?

You will have 3 minutes for each one - this will be timed.

Independent

Random Multiple choice questions sheet (ten questions).

Complete the review questions using the walls in the room or your notebook or your brain. I do not want to see any dictionary definitions!!
