Thursday, December 7 - Seven Ages of Man

Objective: By the end of class, students will analyze author's use of figurative language in poetry in order to create images for the reader.

DO NOW

WHY do authors use figurative language? (What is the purpose? What does it help the reader do?)


Direct Instruction

Return and review information from yesterday. 

Guided

Complete unfinished work and discuss best answers.

Independent 




On the graphic organizer provided, write the answers for the stages to which you were assigned.

THEN: As each group shares out answers, write them down in the appropriate places on the graphic organizer. 

Group 1 - share answers for infant (1) and schoolboy (2)
Group 2 - Share answers for lover (3) and soldier (4)
Group 3 share answers for justice (5) and old man (6) 
Group 4 share answer for second childishness / death (7)



CRQ:
Consider the extended metaphor ( stages of life = acts of a play) and the images created by figurative language for each stage of life. Then, evaluate how meaningful life is according to this poem.
