DENOTATION - the literal or primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the feelings or ideas that the word suggests.
CONNOTATION - an idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning.
EXAMPLES:
To convince someone of something = Denotation
The connotations of "to convince" are:
Positive Connotation = PERSUASION - To convince in a positive way with good intentions
Negative Connotation = MANIPULATION - To convince using sneaky means w/ selfish intentions
